Charred body of woman found in W Midnapore

Mystery shrouds the death of a woman, whose charred body was recovered from the forest area of Ghoramara under Garbeta police station in West Midnapore on Friday morning.

Police are facing problems in ascertaining the identity of the victim, as her body was burnt beyond recognition.

Police said that the body must have been laid on some logs and then set on fire. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

According to preliminary investigation, police suspect that woman might have been raped and later murdered by the accused(s) at a different location, after which they set her body on fire inside the forest.

Garbeta police have contacted various police stations in the adjoining districts to know whether any missing diary has been registered there.

The incident triggered tension in the forest-adjoining villages, after some local people spotted the body lying in the forest on Friday morning.

They informed the matter to the police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Police are interrogating some local residents in this connection.
