CBI grills chief public prosecutor for third day

CBI on Thursday summoned the chief public prosecutor of the sessions court here for the third time and questioned him in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

Sudhir Brahmabhatt was questioned for almost seven hours, said CBI sources.

Now speculation is rife that some high-profile politicians may be summoned for questioning.

Brahmabhatt was earlier questioned on 27 May and 28 May at the CBI’s Gandhinagar office.

He was the special public prosecutor in Akshardham terror attack case of 2002, serial bomb blasts case of 2008 and hooch deaths case of 2009.

Mumbai-based Isharat Jahan, Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an alleged fake encounter on 15 June, 2004 on the outskirts of the city here.

Gujarat Police had then claimed that they were terrorists who had planned to kill chief minister Narendra Modi.
