CBI arrests two PCDA officials for corruption

CBI sleuths on Tuesday arrested two defence accounts officials here for allegedly taking <g data-gr-id="21">bribe</g> of Rs 20,000 for issuing <g data-gr-id="22">certificate</g> to a firm supplying goods to the Army.

The two officials of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) were arrested for issuance of the Annual Settlement Certificate to a firm of Pathankot dealing in the supply of stationery items and small electrical items to the Army.

On receiving a <g data-gr-id="19">complain</g>, a case was registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. The complainant alleged that an official had asked for a bribe of the said amount from his brother-in-law for issuing the Annual Settlement Certificate to the firm.

Subsequently, a trap was laid by the agency and the accused Senior Auditor was caught red handed accepting the bribe. The other accused, an Assistant Accounts Officer, who allegedly had a role to play, too, was arrested.

According to the agency, the houses of the two are being searched and the two will be, on Wednesday, produced before a designated court in Chandigarh.
