Carjacking gang busted, 3 arrested

With the arrest of three persons, the Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an alleged carjacking gang and also solved a murder case within 48 hours.

The accused were also trying to set up a gambling racket in the city, police said. They had allegedly hired a cab from Mahipalpur to Lajpat Nagar on the intervening night of July 5 and <g data-gr-id="31">6,</g> and killed the <g data-gr-id="30">driver,</g> when he resisted their carjacking bid. An investigating official said the trio, then, drove off with the victim’s Swift Dzire car and dumped the driver's body near Skylark Society in Dwarka Sector 6.

“The three have been identified as <g data-gr-id="24">Ataull</g> Rehman (25), <g data-gr-id="25">Namanuddin</g> (22) and Manish Shukla (18). Rehman has been involved in the kidnapping of a child and a woman in Gujarat around four years ago. He was lodged in the Surat Jail. He, later, jumped parole and shifted to Delhi, where he again started getting involved in criminal activities,” said RA Sanjeev, DCP (South-west).

On July 6, the police discovered the driver's body, who was identified as Vinay Kumar (27), a native of Bulandshahr. A murder case was registered at the Dwarka South police station. 

The police first tracked <g data-gr-id="23">Namanuddin</g> and Rehman from their shanties in West Delhi's Uttam Nagar area. They led the police to their third accomplice. The police also recovered the driver’s robbed car from their possession, said the official. The accused have admitted <g data-gr-id="26">to have</g> killed the driver.
