Can’t pay won’t pay!

Raising the issue of rising prices, the Sindhi Theatre along  with Sindhi Academy and  Department of Art, Culture, and Languages, Government of Delhi, will present Chukaindasi Kon!. This play is an adaptation of the Italian playwright Dario Fo’s Non Si Paga? Non Si Paga! (Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay).

‘Adapting the play is not a problem. It has been translated in Hindi some 20 years back as it has universal significance,’ said the director of the play, Manohar Khushalani.

Known for taking up socially relevant issues, Manohar said: ‘It echoes the current situation that has gripped every nation–that of price rise.’

‘The story is about two housewives and the growing price rise in the supermarkets,’ said the director.

‘One will go for this play both for its social relevance as well as entertainment value. In this play, if you open your mouth to laugh perhaps you will also open your mind to think on contemporary issues,' added Manohar. 'Italian comedy theatre was always about farcical elements, but there is a hint of irony in this play,' said Meghraj Gurnani, the translator of the play.
