Wistron to invest `3K cr to set up iPhone unit in K'taka

Bengaluru: Taiwan's industrial giant Wistron Technologies is investing Rs 3,000 crore in Narasapuraindustrial area of Kolar district to set up iPhone manufacturing unit, the Karnataka government on Tuesday said. Wistron is an OEM for iPhone maker Apple.

"An expert team of M/s Wistron Technologies called on Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and held discussions in this regard," the Chief Minister's office said in a statement.

Kumaraswamy suggested to the company to set up a mobile repair and technology facility in the area as technicians in these field are in demand.

iPhone manufacturing unit, which is being established in about 43 acres in Narasapura is going to be the biggest project of its type in the country, the statement quoting Gururaj, who is the country head of the company in India, said.

It will generate 10,500 jobs to the local populace and the company intends to expand the unit, he added.

An MoU in this regard can be signed in 7 days provided the company assures to provide employment to Kannadigas,Revenue Minister R V Deshpande, who was also present at themeeting was quoted as saying in the
