Govt appoints Amitabh Banerjee as Managing Director of IRFC

New Delhi: Industry veteran Amitabh Banerjee has been appointed as the Managing Director at Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), the dedicated financing arm of the Indian Railways for mobilizing funds from domestic as well as overseas Capital Markets.

Banerjee, an IRAS Cadre officer of 1988 Civil Services Exam Batch, was appointed as Managing Director on the IRFC Board on October 12, 2019. He has a Masters in Commerce and is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). He was a rank holder (13th position in All India Merit List) in the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (10+2). He was a recipient of National Talent Search Scholarship (NTS) for 5 years (1980 – 1985).

Banerjee has been working in the capacity of Director Finance, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) since October 2013 before joining the board of IRFC. He also served at different capacities in organisations like Director Finance in Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPC) for 3 years (September 2010 to October 2013), General Manager (Finance) in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) for more than 5 years, where he was handling inter-alia International financing (IDA Loan from JICA), Compilation and Finalization of Accounts and Preparation of Budgetary Estimates.

He was also the nominated representative of DMRC in the world body of various mid-sized metros, christened 'NOVA'. It was a consortium of 15 prominent Metro Rail Companies in the world.
