BJP says it has nothing to do with ghar wapsi drive

“BJP has nothing to do with the activities related to ‘Ghar Wapsi’ (homecoming) of non-Hindus, nor has it backed or contributed to such elements or activities in any manner,” party national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said. “We are of the view that one is free to practice any religion, but at the same time, we oppose conversion by force or allurement,” he told reporters.

Referring to the controversial statements made by BJP MP Yogi Adityanath to defend activities related to the ‘homecoming’ by the non-Hindus, Hussain said the party has not sanctioned its leaders to indulge in such activities nor has it taken part in such programmes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also clarified the government’s stand on the issue, the BJP national spokesperson said and urged opposition parties to put an end to the controversy and allow the Parliament to function.

On the opposition parties’ demand that the Prime Minister make a statement in Parliament on the conversion row, Hussain said the PM was not bound to speak on all issues as there were ministers with specific jurisdiction and they must be allowed to reply on matters related to their respective departments.

Sensing foul play in opposition’s charge against the NDA government on the blackmoney issue, Hussain said the opposition wants to stall the ongoing talks with various countries for sharing details of blackmoney to prevent releasing of names of some powerful people.

The senior BJP leader said the opposition should show patience as the government would release the list of all account holders who stacked their ill-gotten money abroad.

Hinting at senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, Hussain said the former Bihar chief minister should trust his ‘dear friend’ and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to bring back blackmoney from foreign shores.

Hussain, who campaigned in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand for Assembly polls, exuded confidence that BJP will sweep in both the states. After winning Haryana and Maharashtra, Bihar will be our next stop, he said adding the two ‘brothers’ —RJD supremo Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar — will bite the dust at the hustings next year.

To a question on Trinamool Congress, Hussain alleged that TMC leaders and a minister were arrested allegedly for looting money of the poor people through Saradha chitfund scam and the MPs are stalling parliament to prevent the government from serving poor people by expediting development process.

Hussain condemned the terror attack in Pakistan in which 132 students of an army school were gunned down and asked Islamabad to take lessons from the tragedy and work with India in rooting out terrorism from the sub-continent.

He also urged the Pakistan government to hand over the Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Sayeed and Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi to India for trial in connection with terror attacks on Indian soil.
