BJP protest against water crisis

Bhartiya Janata Party [BJP] organised a protest march from Rajghat to Delhi Secretariat against water and power crisis in the city. A delegation of the party also submitted a memorandum to Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who reportedly showed her helplessness in finding a ‘magical solution to water shortage in Delhi’.

The protests on water were also reported from various parts of the city as supply was extremely poor due to ongoing water crisis.

‘The chief minister put the blame of water crisis on Haryana government and did not give any positive assurance to do anything significant in the matter,’ said Vijay Jolly, spokesperson of BJP who lead the delegation to hand over the memorandum to Chief Minister.

The members of the delegation included Vihar Sarita Chaudhary, Pravesh Sahib Singh Verma, Srilal Pradhan and Radhey Shyam Sharma. The leaders alleged that Sheila Dikshit is arrogant and DJB under her chairmanship has failed to find solution to Delhi water woes.

‘Delhi and Haryana’s Congress governments are playing political drama in the water issue,’ added Jolly.

The residents of Sangam Vihar, Tigri, Devli village, Nebsarai and lakhs of people living in Delhi residential colonies are facing hardships over drinking water in scorching heat wave in the capital.

Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel protested the water crisis by bathing with dirty water in the morning and also stage protest with his supporters.

Before submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the BJP workers assembled at Raj Ghat and marched towards Delhi Secretariat raising slogans against Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Jal Board [DJB]. There agitated demonstrators with empty clay pitchers and plastic buckets staged a vociferous demonstration. They expressed their deep anguish, anger and dismay by breaking earthen pitchers in front of the Delhi Secretariat .

‘This is affecting my office work as I have to stay in line for hours to get water. The water supply pipes remain dry since couple of days and we are dependent on water tankers only,’ said Rajesh Singh, a resident of New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi. The water poor supply of water following protests was also reported from New Ashok Nagar, Mauzpur, Nazafgarh, and various parts of Delhi.

However, government and DJB had on Sunday claimed that the water level in their water treatment plants in rising but the supply of water remained poor in the city.


RICH SUFFER TOO

The water crisis has reached in posh Lutyens Zone also. On Tuesday New Delhi Municipal Council [NDMC] issued an advisory that due to shortage of water received from Delhi Jal Board, NDMC would regulate the supply as per availability of water.

‘Normal water supply will be restored as and when adequate water is received from Delhi Jal Board. We have arranged water tankers for emergency water supply,’ said Amit Prasad, spokesperson of NDMC.


JANTAR MANTAR PROTEST ON 22 JUNE

BJP has declared to organise a massive protest at Jantar Mantar on 22 June to protest ‘bad planning’ of Delhi government, which lead to water crisis in the city.

‘We will march from Janta Mantar to Prime Minister’s Office [PMO] to protest the water crisis which is a result of connivance of Delhi government with water mafias,’ said Vijender Gupta, Delhi state BJP president.
