No Bangladeshi will be deported: Modi to Hasina

Dhaka: While India is debating over the possible deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants after the release of National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam, H T Immam, political advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Thursday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had assured his Bangladeshi counterpart that even after due completion of the NRC process, no Bangladeshi would be sent back home.

Imam was interacting with a group of foreign journalists including some from India.

When asked to comment on the statement made by the ruling BJP leaders about the deportation of all illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, he replied that High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Harshbardhan Sringla had assured him and his colleagues in the PMO that no illegal immigrants would be deported to Bangladesh. "We will go by his commitments, and we are satisfied with that reply. He went on to add that even PM Modi had assured PM Hasina that no illegal immigrants would be deported to Bangladesh.
