Judge's wife succumbs to injuries, son 'brain dead'

Gurugram: Additional Sessions Judge Krishna Kant's wife Ritu Garg, who was shot by their security guard on Saturday afternoon, succumbed to her injuries on Sunday while her 18-year-old son Dhruv has been placed on ventilators and declared 'brain dead'. Garg's last rites will be held in her home town of Hissar on Monday. The cause of her death was excessive bleeding due to the bullets that had pierced her body..

The post-mortem on the body of Garg also showed bruises and cuts on her neck, chest, and shoulders. These injuries may be due to a sharp object with which she may have been attacked. One bullet pierced her chest and the other scraped through her body. The condition of Dhruv, who sustained severe injuries due to three bullets being fired at him, is being continuously monitored by top doctors at the multi-specialty hospital.

The mother-son duo were shot by Krishna Kant's 32-year-old security guard Mahipal on the streets of Gurugram in broad daylight. What worsened the condition of the victims was, however, the long delay in getting them to hospital. It took more than half an hour to first get the victims to a nearby hospital after which they were referred to another multi-specialty hospital.

The accused, who was nabbed by the police one and a half hours after the crime, has been charged under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 ( attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). On Sunday afternoon the duty magistrate granted four days' police custody of the accused.

Gururgam Police Commissioner K K Rao has already dismissed him from service.
