From landmarks turning pink to giant blimp, Kolkata gears up for iconic Test

Kolkata: Eden Gardens or the "home of cricket" in India has been a witness to many firsts in the history of the game. From hosting the first World Cup final outside Lords (1987) to VVS Laxman's 281 against Australia in 2001 or Rohit Sharma's 264 off 173 against Sri Lanka, the Eden has seen it all. And once again, it is gearing up for another historic occasion as India play its first Test under the floodlights on November 22.

With hours to go for the historic Day-Night Test between India and Bangladesh, the talks at tea stalls, in buses or dinner tables in Kolkata are revolving around how the pacers are going to swing the pink ball or how the twilight will be a deciding factor when the floodlights are on.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has left no stone unturned to make the Test a special occasion not only for the fans but for the entire city.

Be it the intricacies of North Kolkata or the architectural magnificence of Victoria Memorial, there is never a dull glimpse in Kolkata's cultural carousel.

The entire ground, both inside and out along with the city's famous attractions and landmarks like Shahid Minar, municipal corporation parks, the Maidan tents as well as the ferries which take passengers across the Hooghly river, have been dressed up in a shower of pink lights. Also, a dozen billboards and six LED boards have been installed at various important areas of the city to mark the arrival of this landmark moment in Indian cricket.

Ahead of the Test, the city with all its grandeur has been receiving the final touches of pink before getting ready for the historic match.
