Champion judoka held for stalking, sending obscene photos to women

New Delhi: A 27-year-old national-level judoka from Bhiwani was arrested after he was found involved in stalking and sending obscene pictures to women through different social media applications, police said on Monday.

A police officer privy to the case claimed that the stalker had changed his looks and become bald to evade arrest.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Sonu Sharma, has won gold medals in judo at the Junior National level, twice at School National level and once in Federation Cup in 2011 and 2012. In the city, he was living in the Malkaganj area and was working as a fitness trainer. The police told Millennium Post that Sharma had many clients across the city and secured the phone numbers of many girls. "The 27-year-old man started sending his photographs to them as well as objectionable pictures and vulgar and abusive messages through WhatsApp and Facebook," said a source.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Harendra Singh said that a woman from North Delhi had lodged a police complaint that a person was harassing her mentally by sending objectionable messages and pictures to her on Facebook and WhatsApp.

"He had created more than ten fake Facebook profiles for sending messages to the victims. We have reason to believe that there may be many more victims," Singh told this newspaper.

"With the arrest of Sharma, two cases of stalking registered in Delhi have been solved while further investigation is being conducted to find out other cases registered against him," police said.
