CBSE class XII Economics re-examination on April 25

New Delhi: The CBSE re-exam for the Class 12 economics paper will be held on April 25 but a decision on the CBSE re-exam for the Class 10 maths paper will be taken later, Union Education Secretary Anil Swarup said on Friday, two days after the CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education announced that the papers for the two exams had been leaked and students will have to take re-exams.
The re-test of Class 12 Economics paper would be conducted across the country, while there would be no re-examination in other countries.
"Regarding Class 10th re-examination, as the leak was restricted to Delhi and Haryana, if it at all a re-exam will happen, it will happen only in Delhi and Haryana, and a decision will be taken on this in next 15 days. If at all a re-exam is done, it will be in July," Swarup said while responding to the volley of questions which were directed at CBSE chairman Anita Karwal.
"The idea behind the decision was not to affect the schedule of about 16 lakh students who have appeared for Class 10 examination," he said, adding, "If the reports do not have 'substantial findings,' there would be no re-examination of Class 10 Maths paper."
"Given the consequences of the impact of Class 12 results, the decision to re-conduct the Economics paper has been taken as students have to take admissions in different universities, technical courses, etc.," Swarup said.
Taking the probe further, Delhi Police on Friday said that they have identified and zeroed in on atleast 10 Whatsapp groups each with 50 – 60 members where the leaked question paper was circulated ahead of the CBSE exam.
The Delhi Crime Branch has written to Google for details of the e-mail address from where the CBSE chairperson was sent a mail on the Class 10 mathematics paper being leaked, police officials said.
The e-mail contains images of 12 pages of handwritten question papers, which were posted on WhatsApp groups, they said.
Police believe that the whistleblower or the 'mystery man' is the key to solving this case as he could shed light how he got the paper in advance.
Earlier, CBSE had received a fax from a mystery man on March 23 naming a person who runs a coaching institute in Rajinder Nagar area of the national capital. The board had also said that the fax had named two schools in connection with the paper leak.
The police believe that there might be one person or group behind all these correspondences to CBSE and that may help crack the case.
The police have questioned 45 people since Thursday, including the administrators of the 10 WhatsApp groups, a coaching centre's owner, 18 students and some tutors, in connection with the CBSE paper leak case, he said.
Delhi's deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia has written to Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar requesting him to convene a day-long brainstorming session of state education ministers, so incidents like the class 10 and class 12 papers leak does not recur in the future.
On Friday, six students were also detained in Jharkhand over the leak.
