CBI 'hounding' me: Former Kolkata CP Rajeev Kumar

New Delhi: Former Kolkata Police Rajeev Kumar on Tuesday claimed through his lawyer that the CBI was "hounding" him while making a case before a Calcutta High Court bench which is hearing his plea seeking anticipatory bail in the Saradha chit fund case.

Kumar's lawyers had filed the application under Section 438 of the CrPC on Monday, with the High Court listing the matter for hearing on Tuesday, but at serial number 271.

When Debasish Roy, Kumar's counsel requested that the matter be heard urgently, the court asked for an explanation. Roy submitted before the court that "the CBI is hounding me (Kumar) like anything", to which Justice S Dasgupta said, "Go and surrender".

The division bench of Justices S Munshi and Dasgupta then fixed the matter for hearing on Wednesday (today).

Kumar's anticipatory bail plea in the High Court came after the Alipore Sessions court had rejected an earlier application on Saturday. The Central Bureau of Investigation has been looking for the IPS officer since September 13, when the Calcutta High Court had lifted his arrest shield.
