Big quake: 20 dead, over 300 injured in PoK

ISLAMABAD/ DELHI: At least 20 people were killed and more than 300 others wounded in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake rocked several cities in the northern parts of the country including capital Islamabad.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake was near New Mirpur in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police in Mirpur, Sardar Gulfaraz Khan, told the media that at least 20 people were killed and over 300 injured in Mirpur and surrounding areas due to the powerful quake.

Mild tremors were also felt in Delhi and its nearby areas Tuesday afternoon. The tremors, which lasted a few seconds, were felt at around 4:35 pm, many in Delhi reported.

The tremors were also felt in parts of north India, including Kashmir, Punjab's Chandigarh and Uttarakhand's Dehradun.
