30-year-old shot inside GK-I pub, out of danger

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man was shot at on the dance floor of a posh south Delhi pub at around 3.30am on Sunday, two hours past the closing time.
Police had sought cancellation of the pub's licence and were investigating how an armed person was allowed in, deputy commissioner of police (South) Romil Baaniya said of the security scare that came hours before people would crowd pubs and restaurants across the city to ring in the new year.
"We have registered a case of attempt to murder, and if at all any negligence is brought to our notice during the inquiry, action would be taken," Baaniya said.
According to police, the victim identified as Vinay Bhati, a resident of Jasola area had come with his two office friends for the party in the bar named Rich and Bratz 17 lounge and bar in GK part-1. A member of the victim's family told Millennium Post that they received a call from Vinay in which he stated that he was shot and was going to the hospital. "He told me that he was dancing and by mistake, brushed against the accused after which he took out the gun and shot him," said Ajay Bhati, the victim's brother.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya stated that earlier they got to know that an incident had taken place over parking space on Saturday night, following which he shot at Vinay. After receiving information about the incident, the police reached the spot to find that Vinay had been taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre with a bullet injury near the collarbone and later from the victim they came to know that he was shot inside the pub.
"The accused was identified as Umesh who was beaten up by the public and handed over to the police who seized the firearm," said the DCP adding that the exact time of the incident will be ascertained only after going through the CCTV footage. Police have found empty cartridges from the spot.
