Bengal govt to observe Ambedkar Diwas

The state government will observe B R Ambedkar’s 125 birth anniversary. 

Following the instruction of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, programmes will be organised at every block and district. 

On Wednesday, Banerjee is expected to attend the main ceremony at Netaji Indoor Stadium in a programme organised by the Backward Classes Welfare Department.

The Chief Minister on November 27 had announced that B R Ambedkar’s 125 birth anniversary will 
be celebrated in every block of the state on December 30.

“In honour of the great social reformer and architect of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar, we have decided to celebrate Ambedkar Diwas all over the state on December 30 in a befitting manner,” she said.

The Chief Minister also said that a panchayat training centre, named after B R Ambedkar, would be set up in the state. “We will institute a chair in the name of Dr Ambedkar”, she said.
