Basundhara Mahotsav to start from today

Basundhara Mahotsav — India International Guitar Festival will be inaugurated in the city on Wednesday.

Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Pandit Swapan Chowdhury along with Stephane Amalir, director of Alliance Francaise will inaugurate the festival at the Satyajit Roy Auditorium.

The idea of holding the festival was mooted by Pandit Debashis Bhattacharya and the programme has been organised to create awareness about slide guitar, which migrated to India during the World War II. 

After the inauguration, Israeli bassist Gal Maestro Sauryadipta, Anadi Bhattacharya, a young vocalist from the city and Chari Hariharan from Trivandum will perform at the event. 

There will be performances on jazz and fusion music by the artistes from all across the world. The function will be concluded by a classical performance by Pandit Swaoan Chowdhury and Pandit Debashis Bhattacharya.
