As crime rises, thanas hit new low

During visits to various police stations by this correspondent, it was found that many stations in south, east, northeast and north districts have failed to maintain the basic facilities such as fans, computers, tube-lights, etc.
‘We have to pay from our own pocket if basic facilities like internet connections, lighting, ventilation, etc need some kind of maintenance’, said a police officer posted at Vasant Vihar police station.
Usually what happens is that whenever there is any administrative work that needs attention, the police stations inform its HAG branch which takes care of it. ‘However, it is very time-consuming. For example, if the internet connection is not working, we can’t wait for the HAG officials to come. We get it repaired on our own’, lamented the police officer.
He also added that there are no routine checks by HAG branch so that such facilities are regularly updated. The police officers are bound to get reimbursement for what they have paid for. But, generally no invoice is issued against minor services such as electrical repairing, internet connectivity issues, etc and hence no reimbursement. As a result what happens is that, the local technician or an electrician is not paid for his work.
Speaking to Millennium Post, a local electrician near RK Puram police station, requesting anonymity said, ‘The cops never pay me against my work. So, I avoid going to police station when they call me for work.’ ‘HAG branch need to be more active and police friendly. ‘Lot of formalities like submitting bills of the repairing service creates problem and the police official avoid to approach HAG branch for the same,’ another officer said.
