Tell us a bit about yourself. How do you start painting?
My father is a painter, since I was a child I have been with the paintbrushes and paintings. He is living in New york and I admire his determination. I started painting when I was 18 and I haven’t stopped since and I am proud of it because I could see the tremendous strength and confidence one gets from life experiences and art techniques.

What would you consider your major influences?

Impressionists and specially Kandinsky with his abstract painting. Also in the list are Gustav Klim and Klee. ‘Inner necessity’ is, for Kandinsky, the principle of art and the foundation of forms and the harmony of colours. He defines it as the principle of efficient contact of the form with the human soul. Every form is the delimitation of a surface by another one; it possesses an inner content, the effect it produces on one who looks at it attentively. This inner necessity is the right of the artist to unlimited freedom, but this freedom becomes licence if it is not founded on such a necessity.
Art is born from the inner necessity of the artist in an enigmatic, mystical way through which it acquires an autonomous life; it becomes an independent subject, animated by a spiritual breath.

Is there a difference in the art cultures of India and abroad?
Yes. As in art cultures of India, I consider there are so many influences of cultural icons and religious symbols and alternately the west has a huge influence of consumer iconography.

Do you think art can be a peace bridge?
Absolutely it’s one of the powerful weapons because through the vibrations we also emerge and transform.

Have you ever faced any criticism?
Yes I have faced a lot of criticism and if I ever paid any heed to them I could not paint what I paint. We need to balance the positive and the negative.

What message you want to convey with through work?
That all answers are inside you, that if you change the world can change. My art has always given me the powerful indication that we as human beings need to be in touch with the essence of our own self and then with all.
