Appointment process for new DU V-C set in motion

“The Vice-Chancellor being the academic and administrative head, is expected to be a visionary with proven leadership qualities, administrative capabilities as well as teaching and research credentials,” officials in the HRD ministry said.

“The candidate needs to have a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a professor in a university or at an equivalent position in a research organisation. He or she should not be above the age of 65 years,” they added.

The appointments will be made by a panel of names recommended by the search-cum-selection committee.

Delhi University’s executive council had in May this year nominated former CAG Vinod Rai and former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan to the selection panel.

A notification regarding the constitution of the search-cum-selection panel would soon be issued by the HRD Ministry. The appointment of the next V-C would be watched closely by academic circles given the controversies surrounding Delhi University during the tenure of Dinesh Singh, who was also issued a show-cause notice by the HRD ministry earlier this year over the controversial <g data-gr-id="35">roll out</g> of the now defunct Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP).
