Actor Annabelle Wallis is in talks to feature with Tom Cruise in The Mummy.
“Wallis will play an archaeologist in the Universal Pictures’ film. Sofia Boutella, meanwhile, is on board to play the iconic monster,” variety.com quoted a source as saying.
The film is planned as the first feature in a series of interconnected monster movies. And it will open in the US theatres on June 9, 2017. The studio has also brought in Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan to help develop a monster universe for Universal with rebooted versions of classic monster movies. Kurtzman is on board to direct, and will produce alongside Morgan and Sean Daniel.
Plot details are vague other than the fact that the film will be set in the present day, unlike the previous three instalments starring Brendan Fraser. Wallis is best known for her work in Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders. She also starred in the 2014 horror film Annabelle and the comedy Brothers Grimsby.
