Work at Howrah Passenger Yard: Trains cancelled

Kolkata: Eastern Railway has announced full and partial cancellation of several trains and diversion of a few due to track maintenance work at Howrah Passenger Yard on Saturday and Sunday.

"For track maintenance work at Howrah Passenger Yard, 480 minutes Traffic and Power block from 12:15 am to 08:15 am on the night of 30.11/01.12.2019 (Saturday/Sunday) will be required," said an official of Eastern Railway.

Panskura-Howrah local from Panskura will remain cancelled on December 1. Howrah-Panskura local will also remain cancelled from Howrah on December 1.

While Ispat Express will leave Howrah at 09:10 am instead of its scheduled departure at 6:55 am on December 1, Falakunama Express will leave Howrah at 9:20 am instead of its scheduled departure at 7:25 am on December 1.

"Tamralipta Express will originate from Santragachi instead of Howrah on December 1. Koraput Express will be controlled for 120 minutes in Kharagpur Division on November 30. Yasvantpur-Howrah Express will be controlled for 110 minutes in Kharagpur Division on November 29. Karya Yoga Express will be controlled for 95 minutes in Kharagpur Division on November 30," the official said.

In an effort to minimise carbon footprint and contribute towards reduction in global warming, the Eastern Railway on Friday said it has set an ambitious plan to generate solar power of 300 million watts (30 megawatt) by 2020. Aiming at maximum possible use of clean and renewable energy within the zone, the ER has set a rapid growth path for utilising solar energy from 30 million watts in 2018 to 300 million watts in 2020.

The goal of generating 300 million units (30 megawatts) will accrue a saving of Rs 12 crore in revenue expenses per year at present rate of tariff.
