Kolkata: The Indian Consulate office in Iran is talking with and arranging food for the twelve residents of Bengal, who have been allegedly confined illegally in Iran. The process for arranging their return has also been initiated and if everything goes as per plan, they will be flown to the city on Thursday.

The 12 persons, hailing from different parts of the state, had travelled to Iran for jobs in the jewellery industry, eight months ago. They had sought the intervention of the Centre as well as the state administration, after they were allegedly duped and the company that had employed them, refused to hand over their passports.

The National Anti-Trafficking Committee (NATC) had taken up the matter at various forums, seeking assistance. It issued a statement on Tuesday stating that A K Singh of the Indian Consulate office in Iran has talked with the victims. Singh, along with other Indian officials also arranged food for the victims. Most importantly, as informed to NATC by the victims, the representatives from the company that had employed them have also assured the youths their salary and passport. The company had paid salary to the victims for the first three months, after which they closed down.
