NEW DELHI: The Special Cell of Delhi Police on Friday said it arrested an absconding woman wanted for the murder of a 15-year-old Jharkhand girl in Mianwali Nagar area of outer Delhi.

Cops said that Gauri, a resident of Kalchini subdivision of West Bengal's Alipurduar district, was one of the accused who murdered Soni, a resident of Ranchi, after the girl demanded the salary which the accused had taken from her.

A cash reward of Rs 50,000 had been declared for Gauri's arrest by the Delhi Police Commissioner.

"On October 18, the police team received a tip-off that accused Gauri married one Kartar Singh to hide her identity, and was living in Ratta Khera village of Haryana's Jind district. The team acted swiftly and laid a trap. At around 4 pm, she was stopped and questioned, and she revealed her identity and confessed her involvement in the murder case of Soni," Sanjeev Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said.

On May 4, an information was received at Mianwali Nagar police station that some body parts were found floating in a drain in C-Block area of Jwalapuri. Cops rushed to the spot and recovered a girl's head and a severed leg from the drain.

Cops launched a search operation to recover the remaining body parts, and eventually found her torso and severed arms in a black-and-red colored bag.

In the course of the investigation, cops nabbed an accused Manjit and identified the co-accused Shalu, Rakesh and Gauri, who were on the run.

Soon, a cash reward of Rs 50,000 each was declared for arrest of the remaining culprits.

Cops had said the accused persons were operating a fake placement agency, using which they regularly brought girls from Jharkhand and got them employed as domestic helps in residences in Delhi.

Soni was one such girl working who worked as a domestic help, whose salary was forcibly taken away by the accused.

When she demanded they pay the money she rightfully earned, the accused murdered the 15-year-old girl.
