Two DTC employees crushed to death as speeding bus rams into vehicles

New Delhi: In a tragic accident, two DTC employees were crushed to death after they were sandwiched between buses and auto rickshaw after their bike was hit by an uncontrolled private bus in Delhi's Vivek Vihar. The incident was reported on Monday afternoon when a private bus lost control and hit several vehicles in a row standing on the Ramprastha red light. The two men who were riding bikes were on a single bike did not even get time to respond and were thrown between the stationary buses and auto rickshaw on the red light. They both succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

"The two men who died have been identified as Satish Kumar, DTC conductor and Rupender Kumar, DTC driver. Two more people suffered serious injuries and were shifted to GTB hospital immediately," said DCP Shahdara Mehgna Yadav.

The chartered bus with Delhi number (private) was coming in speed, it banged into a school bus waiting at the red light carrying school children, however, no school children were injured, this bus further banged into a UP roadways bus, this bus further banged into a cluster bus of DTC. In between these buses, two auto rickshaw es got crushed, one motorcycle got crushed and one bike went beneath the chartered bus. Locals and passerby soon rushed to rescue and tried helping the injured. The police were informed immediately.

After receiving the information of the major road mishap, the team from Vivek Vihar police station rushed to the spot and took the injured to the hospital. Satish and Rupender were also rushed to GTB hospital but were declared brought dead by the hospital. "A private bus hit the other stationary buses and auto rickshaw from behind. The impact was so severe that small vehicles were completely mangled. The two men who rode the bike later succumbed to death, Both were residents of Delhi," said a senior police officer.

Soon, the Delhi police registered a case under section 279 and 304 A and a search was launched to arrest the driver of the offending vehicle who fled the spot after the accident. Pieces of glass were spread all over and the police along with the help of locals put the vehicles aside at the Ramprastha red light for restoring the traffic which was briefly affected for about an hour after the accident at around 3:30 pm in the afternoon.

The police are tracing the driver and seized the offending private bus. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to GTB for postmortem.
