Kerala floods: AAP MLAs, MPs to donate one month's salary

NEW DELHI: All MPs, MLAs and ministers of Aam Aadmi Party will donate a month's salary for the relief work in flood-ravaged Kerala, Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday, adding that the Delhi government will also give a Rs 10 crore relief.

In a tweet on Saturday, he said, "All AAP MLAs, MPs and ministers (are) donating one month salary for Kerala."

"I appeal to all employees of Delhi govt to donate at least one day salary for Kerala," he said in another tweet.

On Friday, the Chief Minister also spoke to his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan.

"Spoke to Kerala CM. Del govt is making a contribution of Rs 10 Cr. I sincerely appeal to everyone to donate generously for our brothers and sisters in Kerala (sic)," he had tweeted on Friday.

Further, Kejriwal enquired about the situation in Kerala from the resident commissioner of Kerala and asked what can the Delhi Government do more for the people of Kerala.

The Resident Commissioner informed that the situation was serious and listed out the immediate requirements. Bottled water, biscuits, dry food packets, blankets, bed-sheets and clothes were listed out as the top requirements.

Kejriwal directed that the offices of all the sub-divisional magistrates would work as a donation center for the people of Delhi to send donations from, where it will be sent to Kerala for the affected people.

Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash was directed by Kejriwal to get the offices double up as collection centres at the earliest. The CM has also released a sum of Rs 10 crore from the CM relief fund for the Kerala flood victims, which includes over 300 casualties.

The Delhi government will also issue advertisements for mass awareness in Delhi requesting people to donate generously. The people would be requested to donate blankets, clothes, and bed-sheets for the affected people.
