Gurugram residents irked over pitiable state of roads

As the Millennium city is undergoing major development in areas like Golf Course road and National Highway-8, various other roads continue to be in dilapidated condition. The developments are being undertaken by public agencies.

On Sunday, the residents of Sushant Lok colony held protests over the poor condition of roads. Along with this, they also voiced on the improper management of the roads by the public agencies.

The responsibility of maintaining roads in the city is entrusted upon the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Haryana Development Urban Authority (Haryana Urban Development Authority).
Most of the resident bodies claimed that both the authoritative bodies lack proactive action among the public agencies towards enhancement of the roads.

Recently, a Private company roped in some money to fill the potholes in the industrial area of Udyog Vihar after MCG failed to repair the road.

Various HUDA sectors and also parts of MG road continue to take its toll on the commuters in the city owing to bad roads.

"There will not be a single road in the city at present that will not have any potholes. While there are lot of constructions happening at the prominent stretch of Golf Course road and NH-8, the condition of other roads continue to be in poor state," added a resident, Amarjeet Singh.

"The state of poor roads in the city has started to take a toll on the citizens of the city. Not only are the poor state of roads proves to be a major risk for commuters but there have been also reports of people sustaining back and neck injuries due to poor roads, " added Singh.

The crumbling infrastructure of the city has doubled after the heavy rains on July 29 last year that crippled the city. Meanwhile, the public agencies kept on assuring and reassuring the residents of better roads.
"It's not that we are not working towards improving the city roads in the area. We are working in a phased and systematic manner towards it. The public must also cooperate with us and understand that MCG is working under limited resources," said a Senior MCG official.
