Gold chain robbers arrested, mortgaged gold at Muthoot

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested two snatchers and recovered 11 gold chains from them in Hazrat Nizamuddin area of south-east Delhi. When Delhi police arrested Rahul Parcha and Zubair Alam, they found a unique modus operandi. The cops were shocked to see the snatchers preferred Muthoot to mortgage gold and to sell it at any local jewellery shop.

DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal said "Earlier accused persons used to dispose gold jewellery to a local jeweller but nowadays they used to mortgage these gold chains at Muthoot Fincorp outlet at Mayur Vihar pretending as their own gold jewellery and procure a gold loan. Four gold chains were mortgaged by the accused persons for Rs 88,000,"

In order to escape from police, after committing the crime, the accused persons used to fix a fake number plate on their bike and before committing the crime they used to recce the targeted area. After snatching and robbery, they used to change the fake number plate with another fake number plate, so as to escape from police pickets and checking. They also used to keep a pistol to threaten the victim in case of any retaliation or threat from police.

On October 19, a trap was laid on specific information at Jungpura. During checking under SHO Nizamuddin Satender Mohan, one person on black pulsar was seen coming from Jangpura side and after seeing the police picket he suddenly turned his bike but on doing so, his motorcycle got slipped and he fell down. The accused, identified as Rahul, was arrested after a chase and on the next day his associate Zubair was arrested too.

One country made pistol and one live cartridge was also recovered from their possession. The cops are now verifying that how many more cases of snatching are there. Other than Nizamuddin, cases against the duo have been registered in Badarpur, Lajpat Nagar, Govindpuri, New Friends Colony, Kalkaji and Amar Colony.
