Amethi food park: Kaur, Irani lash out at Rahul

The NDA government on Tuesday hit out at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over the food park in Amethi issue.

Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal attacked Gandhi in the Lok <g data-gr-id="28">Sabha,</g> while Union Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani took on him in his constituency, Amethi, over the issue. In a <g data-gr-id="29">suo</g> moto statement in the Lok Sabha, Badal said: “The appraisal of the detailed project report revealed that the promoter company was not in possession of the required minimum 50 acres of land, along with a permission, to set up the mega food park project.”

“The promoter company was, therefore, granted extension several times to enable it to complete the pre-conditions for the final approval. The last extension was granted up to March 30, 2014,” she added. The minister said in response to a show-cause notice, the promoters informed that apart from the land issue, they had also applied to the Petroleum Ministry for the allotment of gas at an administered price for setting up a captive power plant in the mega food park, which is necessary for uninterrupted power supply.

Meanwhile, Irani said Gandhi was more interested in protecting the interests of a business house -- the promoter of the food park project -- and was ignoring farmers. “When Rahul Gandhi spoke for the first time in Amethi, he was talking for a business house. He did not speak for the farmers of Amethi. If you look at the documents of district officials, you will understand that from 2010 to 2014, the land was not provided by the Congress. Whatever help had to be given for gas was not given for long,” she said to a question on the food park. Irani said Gandhi has been “missing” from his constituency and that the dreams shown by the three generations of the Congress can only be fulfilled by the Modi government.
