All for love!

Is the whole year not enough to express love and affection, but cram it all in one week with days renamed from Monday, Tuesday to rose day, propose day, teddy day…and its epitome the Valentine’s day? Some lovebirds feel that this addition to Valentine’s day adds on to the celebrations, which help the couples have a great week, while others feel that there is no need for such an exaggerated celebration of love.

“This week will be as normal as any other week for me. There should not be a day to show or seek love. I believe Valentine’s day should be everyday”, said Kshitiz Sudhakar, content writer. “Sometimes people feel special on such occasions when treated differently by their lovers than all the other days,” said Bingshati Chakraborty, a class 10 student.

Why do these days get so much importance? Is it really about expressing one’s feelings or is it more materialistic by nature? “I don’t really know how it feels to celebrate Valentine’s day or the week, but it’s visually nice to look around this week, as you see girls all decked up beautifully and loaded with teddy bears, roses and chocolates,” said Anshu Dubey, a student of mass communication.

“On the other hand it’s an all-expense week for the guys, where they almost go bankrupt,” added the 25 year old. With gift shops overloaded with colourful pillows, cards, roses and other lovable gift items since the beginning of this month, ‘love’ seems to be at the peak when this special week sets in! Young couples set out a different mood around the city with lots of smile and gifts, but how long do the smile last? “Personally I think this week is a wastage of money and time because some people have a hobby of being in relationships and ultimately there is no end result since relationships don’t last long these days”, added Bingshati.

Love is not simply expressed through gifts from men, “I am planning to bake a black forest cake and gift him a gold pendant with his initials”, says Chandrima Karmakar, a PR professional.

When it comes to true love, gifts are not a necessary item for many, who live miles apart for various reasons and they celebrate love through their hearts. Time is a luxurious item for them to invest in, in their relation rather than investing in flowers and showpieces. On one hand we have those who like to celebrate throughout the year no matter what the occasion is, while on the other hand we have the quiet and poised lovers who are more inclined to the connection of hearts not through wires and gifts but through emotions and faith. While eagerly waiting for love to float mid air, let us all witness the love-filled year of the enthusiastic minds.
