Aliah varsity students stage protest against V-C

The students of Aliah University staged protest against their vice-chancellor on Friday. The protesting students even stopped their vice-chancellor from entering the university. The students alleged, the Vice-Chancellor is corrupt and he should not reach his office. They also demanded resignation of the vice-chancellor.

The students veiled their face with black cloths, wore black dress to display their protest and anger against the vice-chancellor Abu Taleb Khan. The protesting students locked the main gate of the university. The professors, faculties, registrar, teaching and non-teaching staffs could not enter the university premises.

The vice chancellor was even standing outside the gate for 30 minutes. The police officers and the security guard of the university later rescued him. They students, teachers who were not in the protest returned after being restricted from entering in the university.

However, the protesting students said, the Vice-Chancellor was not in his office for some days. He was scheduled to join on Friday. “We had planned the protest on Friday. The protest will continue in future as well,” said a protesting student.

However, the protesting students threatened bigger agitation and threatened to confine the V-C in the campus. The protesting students, however, denied that any of its activists were being involved in the locking the main gate.

Officers of the New Town police station said that they have received verbal complaints and were looking into the matter. No arrests have been made yet in the case.

“We did not lock the gate. We were standing in front of the gate and protesting. It is the authority, who spread the rumours,” one of the protesting student said.
