After Kanika, NSUI leader sports different look on posters

A day after there were reports of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Kanika Shekhawat  being represented by VJ Nauheed Cyrusi in DU campaign posters and pictures, a similar case has come to light.

This time, it is National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) presidential candidate Gaurav Tushir who is said to have resorted to the same practice.

‘Gaurav has also used the same tactic. Before his name was nominated for the president’s post, he used a very different photograph in his posters. One could not recognise that it was a photograph of Gaurav. Such posters were pasted in colleges which do not fall in the vicinity of the campus.  This tactic has been used before also in order to lure voters with attractive faces,’ said a source in NSUI.

ABVP member Kanika, who is elected as secretary in DUSU was accused of replacing her photograph with that of VJ and actress Nauheed Cyrusi in the posters.

‘Why would I do that? I saw the posters on 12 September in Shivaji College and filed a complaint at the police headquarters. Since, it was election day of DUSU polls, I did not make a fuss about it. I am sure that the people who were afraid that they would lose must have done it. This act has been done by none other than NSUI members who wanted to defame me. But I won ultimately.
Also, as a woman I feel that my privacy is threatened and police should take strict actions so that nothing like this happens again,’ said Kanika Shekhawat, secretary, DUSU 2014.

While ABVP is blaming NSUI for such act, the youth Congress party has snapped the former for such unfair practices.

‘This is not in our culture to resort to such practices to win elections. We would have filed a complaint against her nomination if we knew about it. If ABVP is accusing us, they should have some concrete evidence for that. 'They should be brave enough to own up to it. It is their culture to disturb campaigning and file complaints against our candidates. They are trying to fool the voters. Unlike them, we believe in certain principles and stick to them at any cost,’ said Roji M John, national president, NSUI.
