ABVP wins after 18 years, AISA makes a mark

Crediting the triumph to ‘Modi wave’ Rohit Chahal, national secretary, ABVP, said: ‘Expectations of people have gone up after Modi government came to power.’

Out of total votes, ABVP had secured 36.69 percent votes; National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) got 26.76 percent whereas AISA won 19.28 percent votes.

AISA, which is an effectively new player, is considered to be a fresh wave in the university and as the results portray, they were able to gain students’ confidence to a great extent as it’s vote share increased in comparison to last year. ‘Compared to 2013, we have got 3,000 more votes for the posts of president and joint secretary and we got 5,000 more votes for the posts of vice-president and secretary. Students have started showing their trust in us. This is due to our honesty,’ said
Sunny Kumar, state secretary, AISA.

This year, the presidential post contested by Madhurima Kundu from AISA secured 17.78 percent votes. For the vice-presidential post contested by Aman Nawaz, the party got 20.97 percent votes. For the post of secretary contested by Aman Gautam, the association secured 22.72 percent votes. And, for the joint secretary’s post contested by Vikramaditya, the party was able to secure 15.78 percent.

Though AISA secured the third position in the university elections this year, it has made a commendable performance to attract more students and slowly is becoming a force to reckon with.
ABVP credited their victory to students and rollback of FYUP. Mohit Nagar polled 36.25 percent votes defeating Gaurav Tushir of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) who polled 34.65 percent votes for the post of president. Parvesh Malik, who polled 38.52 percent votes, defeated NSUI’s candidate Mona Choudhary (24.72 percent votes) for the post of vice-president.
