Abhishek Verma’s Romanian wife denied bail

A special court has rejected the bail plea of Anca Neacsu, the Romanian wife of controversial businessman Abhishek Verma, in a corruption case. Abhishek Verma is an accused in the Navy war room leak case.

‘The bail application of Anca Neacsu is dismissed,’ said Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] Special Judge Sanjeev Jain. Currently, Neacsu is under judicial custody.

The CBI had arrested Verma and his wife on 9 June for allegedly receiving money from a Swiss arms company to stall the blacklisting proceedings initiated against it by the Indian government. They were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Both were arrested a few weeks after the government blacklisted six defence companies, including Switzerland’s Rheinmetall Air Defence [RAD]. The CBI had registered a fresh case against Verma on 8 June and had raided his premises.

They have been accused of taking US $530,000 from RAD for using his influence to stall the blacklisting proceedings against it.

Meanwhile, sources said that Enforcement Directorate has registered a fresh money laundering case against Abhishek Verma in its probe against him for allegedly receiving money from a Swiss defence firm to keep it out of the government’s blacklist. The ED has registered the fresh complaint, under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act [PMLA], based on the contents of the FIR lodged by the CBI.
