Aarushi case trial to begin on 4 June

The dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwar would face trial from 4 June for the murder of their teenage daughter and domestic help in 2008. A special CBI court in Ghaziabad on Friday formally framed the charges against them. Talwars are set to appeal in the High Court of Allahabad.

'We are not guilty,' maintained Nupur and Rajesh Talwar when S Lal, Additional District Judge (CBI), had asked the accused whether they plead guilty in the case or face trail. The judge then ordered the trial to begin on 4 June. The accused would be tried under Sections 302/34 and 201/34 of IPC. Rajesh would be tried on an additional charge under Section 203 of IPC for giving wrong information to police on 16 May 2008, which was the basis of FIR lodged in police station Sector 20 in Noida.

If proven guilty, Talwars could be sentenced for a minimum of seven years to a maximum of capital punishment. Rajesh would get an additional sentence of maximum two years, if found guilty under Section 203.The advocates of Talwars had pleaded to the court to give them at least 15 days time to prepare the case, but it was rejected.

'We have applied for the certified copy of the order, study it and then decide our future strategy. We will hopefully appeal in the high court against the order,' said Manoj Sishodia, advocate of the couple. Earlier, Talwars were produced before the court at 10.30 am, which deferred the case till 2.30 pm.

'The court will now examine the witnesses and evidences collected by investigation agencies. We have handed all documents to defence as they had demanded through the court,' said R K Saini, CBI prosecutor.

The agency has submitted a list of 141 witnesses, several documents related to case, scientific tests done on the dentist couple and servants, mobile of Aarushi Talwar, clothes of Talwars and servants, golf stick, etc.
