A soulful rendition

Thumri, a blend of Hindustani classical with traits of folk literature and music pleased the ears of music lovers in city in a three day Thumri festival. Artistes from around the country performed at the event that finished Thursday. Veteran singer Ajay Pohankar was also a part of the entourage that charmed people at Kamani Auditorium. 

Piya Bawri fame Pohankra mesmerized audience on Wednesday evening. While singers Dhanashree and Dalia Raut, performed to a packed house after that. The fest concluded on the eve of Independence day, with performances of Pt Channu Lal Mishra, Moumita Mitra and Kakli Mukherjee. They mesmerised audience with various dohas by Indian bhakti poets, the  core content of Thumri.

In three days these artists Devashish Dey, Ashwini Bhide, Shruti Sadolikar, Dhanashree, Dalia Raut, Moumita Mitra and Kakli Mukherjee presented a soulful rendition to the audience including veteran artists Pt Channu Lal Mishra and Ajay Pohankar.

The show was the fourth edition of Thumri festival by Delhi Governments Department of Arts, Culture & Languages and Sahitya Kala Parishad. 

‘Thumri keeps alive the traditions of bhakti poets, it is important to give a greater platform to artists who practice it and take it down generations,’ said Sinshu Mishra, deputy secretary, Sahitya Kala Parishad.
