50 per cent seats in PG courses for UG students from varsity: DU

Delhi University on Monday issued guidelines for admission to various Post Graduate/Masters Courses, where it was decided that 50 per cent of the total intake will be made up of those students who have completed their Bachelors degree at the varsity, on the basis of merit. The remaining 50 per cent students will have to undergo an entrance test plus interview.

‘Students already studying in undergraduate courses, who are looking for courses to pursue their masters in any field from DU, will not have to give the entrance test and interview. Their admission will be done on the basis of merit. This rule already exists, but it is only functional in a few departments. However, now all academic departments will have to admit 50 per cent of students from the varsity, through merit bases’, said JM Khurana, dean of Students Welfare.

The remaining students will have to give entrance test plus interview. If any seat were to remain vacant, despite the intake of students from the varsity, due to inability to gather meritorious students, the seat will be will be filled through entrance test.

Varsity has also decided that from the following academic session, all candidates will have to apply online for admission to different Post Graduate courses centrally. As per the notification issued by varsity, centralised registration of candidate will be made from 1 March to 10 April, 2014.
