45-year-old man shot dead in Howrah

A 45-year-old man was shot dead at Shalimar in Howrah on Tuesday night, police said. 

According to police, the victim Sundar Shaw was killed as a witness in a murder case. 

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim used to sell liquor at a premium. On Tuesday night, three people came to his residence in a taxi and asked him to give them a bottle of liquor. He told them that there was no stock in his house. But they continued forcing him to give at least a bottle. 

This led to an altercation when the victim asked them to leave the place. The accused started beating him and injured him with a knife. His wife and daughter came out of the house and cried for help. When the local people started gathering on the spot, one of the accused opened fire and the victim received a bullet injuries on his back. He was rushed to Howrah Hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

Local residents told the police that the taxi driver fled with the vehicle soon after the scuffle broke out and the three accused ran away towards Shalimar Yard. Police have initiated a probe in this connection, but they are yet to arrest anyone in this connection. 

According to the victim’s kin, Shaw had been receiving threat calls for the past few days. He also informed this to the police. He was witness of the murder of Sk Munna. He had also helped the police to identify the accused who had killed Munna.
