3 suffer bullet injury during CPI(M)-TMC clash

Around three persons suffered bullet injuries on Wednesday after a clash broke out between the supporters of the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress in Murshidabad over the election of a local gram panchayat pradhan.

The victims were undergoing treatment at a hospital. A huge contingent of police reached the spot to bring the situation under control. A local CPI(M) leader said that the previous panchayat pradhan was removed a month ago due to some financial irregularities.

As a result, administrative work of the gram panchayat was stalled. On Wednesday, election to the post was scheduled to be held. CPI(M) supporters said that TMC workers created the trouble as they knew that they won’t be able to win the election. Clash broke out after unknown people armed with lathis had started scaring the panchayat members.

The TMC on the other hand said that the HC had stayed the election and so Wednesday’s election was illegal. The police had resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob.
