24-yr-old man held for raping minor

A 24-year-old man was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a one-and-half-year- old girl near Bally in Howrah on Wednesday night, police said.   

Police said the accused Abhishek Roy was produced before the Howrah Court on Thursday afternoon.

The accused was well known to the victim’s parents and he often used to take the girl to his residence. On Wednesday, he took the girl when there was no one at his residence. 

After around an hour, Roy left the girl outside her place and fled. Her mother took her inside when she started crying.

Later the girl fell ill and her parents took her to a doctor. After the check up, the doctor said that the girl was sexually assaulted. 

While discussing the matter with neighbours, the parents came to know that Roy took her to his residence in the evening. The person had also seen Roy bringing the girl back from his house and she was crying. 

Subsequently, the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with Nischinda police station.
