14-yr-old girl’s body recovered from well

Mystery shrouds the death a 14-year-old girl whose body was found in a well at Ratua village in Malda on Tuesday, police said. 

The victim, Rijuana Khatun, was a student of class IX. She went missing since Monday morning. Her family members contacted their relatives and searched for her almost everywhere in the nearby areas. After failing to find the girl, her family members lodged a missing diary at nearby police station. 

On Tuesday morning some local residents spotted her body floating inside a well, which is close to her house. After being informed, police reached the spot and recovered the body. The incident had sparked tension at the village. The body was sent to Malda Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. An officer said they have started an investigation. However, police are yet to ascertain whether the girl committed suicide or there was any foul play behind her death. The officers are waiting for the post-mortem report which would throw some light in the case. 

However, police were not ruling out the possibility of foul play behind the incident. They are interrogating the victim’s family members to determine whether there was any family rivalry.
